 8th and 9th Grade Math

M21  Math 3
Level:  Grade 8
Course Length:  Year
This course gives extensive review of the skills acquired in Math 2 and extends those skills in preparation for high school course.  Number sense, algebra, probability and statistics, geometry and measurement are studied.  Topics include working with properties of real numbers to evaluate numeric expressions, understanding slope as a rate of change, using counting techniques to determine possible outcomes and surface area of prisms.

M25  Math 3 Advanced
Level:  Grades 6, 7 and 8
Course Length:  Year
Prerequisite:  Teacher recommendation
Math 3 Advanced is designed to prepare students for algebra.  Number sense, probability and statistics, geometry and measurement are studied.  Topics include working with the properties of positive and negative exponents, understanding slope as a rate of change, applying the Fundamental Counting Principle, and surface area and volume of pyramids and cylinders.

M35  Algebra 1 Advanced
Level:  Grades 7 and 8
Course Length:  Year
Prerequisite:  Teacher recommendation
Algebra 1 Advanced is an in-depth study of algebraic symbolism, systems of equations, graphing, problem solving and probability and statistics.  Students will build upon their previous knowledge to understand the characteristics and representations of various functions and relations, including first degree equations and inequalities, polynomials, exponential and radical expressions, quadratic equations, complex numbers and rational algebraic expressions.  This course is designed for highly motivated and mathematically talented students.

 6th Grade Math

M01  Math 1
Level:  Grade 6
Course Length:  Year
This course is designed to review and strengthen skills previously learned at the elementary level while moving ahead into Colorado Grade 6 Standards.  Concepts include number sense (integers, fractions, decimals and percents), probability and data analysis, geometry (coordinate graphing) and algebra (using variables to describe patterns).

M05  Math 1 Advanced
Level:  Grade 6
Course Length:  Year
Prerequisite:  Teacher recommendation
This course moves directly into advanced middle level math topics, which are covered in considerable depth.  Number sense (operations with integers, fractions, decimals and percents), probability and data analysis (measures of central tendency, theoretical and experimental probability), geometry (coordinate graphing) and algebra (reflecting change through linear relationships) are some concepts covered in this course.

 7th Grade Math

M11 Math 2
Level:  Grade 7
Course Length:  Year
This course reviews and extends the skills acquired in Math 1.  Number sense, relations, probability and statistics, geometry and measurements are covered.  Additional topics include working with area and volume formulas, angles, symmetry and transformations, conversion units, use of variables and expressions.

M15  Math 2 Advanced
Level:  Grades 6 and 7
Course Length:  Year
Prerequisite:  Teacher recommendation
This course is designed as a continuation of Math 1 Advanced.  Number sense, probability and statistics, algebra, geometry and measurements are studied.  Additional topics include working with exponents and non-perfect squares, solving linear two-step equations, surface area and volume formulas, reflections, translations and rotations.
