Subject: Additional site design considerations
Although I am not a member of the committee, I attended the DAT meeting on March 31sr and have a comment regarding the four potential site plans that were presented. The design team has done a good job of being sensitive to the requests of neighbors to the east of the school in situating the building such that their views of the mountains will be preserved. As a neighbor on Glenwood, I would like to ask that the same consideration be given to those to the north of the school, i.e., that their views to the southwest be preserved. With the proposed location of the building, this would mean being careful with the height and where the highest point is located. It was said that the mass of the building would likely NOT be on the east side. If the highest point is on the west side, and especially if it is higher than the existing gym, it will significantly alter the views of those on Glenwood. Also, as a general design issue, special attention should be given to the character of the neighborhood, i.e., mainly low-profile ranch houses. A massively tall structure would not fit into this aesthetic.
By the way, while there appear to be neighbors on the DAT representing the east, west, and south sides of the site, I don’t believe there is anyone from the north side. I hope this lack of representation does not skew the final design decisions.
Thank you for considering my concerns.
