School counseling for elementary age students is an important part of early childhood education. Counslors help children learn how to be students and have success in this new world called "school." Counselors can help children with everything from developing organizational skills to making friends and working well in groups. Not all BVSD elementary schools have a counselor on staff, but we hope that will eventually be the case.
In the Comprehensive School Counseling Curriculum adopted by the Boulder Valley Board of Education in March 2007, benchmarks of development are identified for each grade level. You can read more about those in the following excerpted pages from the curriculum document:
