| The Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 required that every school district in the nation establish a local school wellness policy by the first day of the 2006 school year. Colorado legislators passed a Senate bill in support of the Federal Act. In 2005, BVSD formed a Wellness Policy Committee of parents, food service staff, administrators, students and teachers to create Policy ADF and the associated regulation, ADF-R which was adopted by the BVSD School Board in May, 2006. The first goal of the regulation is to provide comprehensive education that addresses nutrition, physical activity and lifelong wellness behaviors, a goal jointly addressed through the BVSD Health Education and Physical Education Program. The Health Partnership Advisory Committee is charged with developing an implementation plan, serve as a resource to schools, and monitor the progress of the policy.
