Results of the December 2009 Assessment

Process: 
In December 2009, 1070 students participated in the World Language Level III Reading Assessment.  Teachers entered the raw data results into Infinite Campus.  Planning and Assessment tabulated the results and created the attached documents.  Teachers and Principals recieved the printed reports the week of March 1, 2010

Performance Level of All Students:  
1070 students of French, German, Japanese and Spanish participated in the Level III Reading Assessment.  88% of them performed at a Proficient or Advanced level.  Last year, 86% of students performed at this level.  That is an increase of 2%.

Strategies for Teaching Reading

Below are some strategies that are used in BVSD for teaching reading at the elementary levels. They are provided here for World Language teachers to peruse and determine if they can be adapted for use in their own classroom.

 Dates for the Dec. 2009 Assessment

 

 Reading Assessment for All French, German, Japanese, Latin & Spanish Level III students  

  • November 17 - Materials are sent to schools by inter-school mail.
  • November 20 - Materials should have arrived at each school.
  • December 1 through 16 - Assessment Window
  • December 18 - Deadline to return materials to Dr. Miller-Brown's office.
