Children need healthy meals to learn. The Boulder Valley School District offers healthy meals every school day. Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced price meals in the Federal School Lunch (and Breakfast) programs.

The application process for Free and Reduced meals is centralized at the Nutrition Services Office at 6500 Arapahoe Road, Boulder. The application form is specific and requires being completed in black ink so it can be scanned. Therefore, the application cannot be made available online. Any interested person can pick up an application at their school or in the Nutrition Services Office. For questions and assistance, contact Becky Delaney at 720.561.5942.

Who can get free or reduced price meals?

Children in households getting Food Stamps and most foster children can get free meals regardless of your income. Also, if your household income is within the limits on the Federal Income Chart, your children can get free or reduced price meals. Visit the "Eligibility Criteria for Free or Reduced Price Meals" page (click on link below) to view the BVSD criteria for qualifying for Free or Reduced Lunches.

Will the information I give be checked?

Yes, we may ask you to send written proof of the information you give.

What if I stop getting Food Stamps?

If your children qualify because you listed a Food Stamp case number, you must tell the school when you no longer get Food Stamps.

What if my household size or income changes?

If your children qualify for free or reduced price meals based on your income, you must notify your child's school office if your household size goes down or if your income goes up by more than $50 per month ($600 per year). You do not have to fill out another application.

If I don't qualify now, may I apply again later?

Yes. You may apply at any time during the school year if your household size goes up, income goes down, or if you start getting Food Stamps. If you lose your job, your children may be able to get free or reduced price meals during the time you are unemployed.

What if I disagree with the decision about my application?

You may ask for a hearing by calling or writing to: Ann Cooper, Director of Nutrition Services; P.O. Box 9011; Boulder, CO 80301; 720.561.6131.

Who has permission to see my application?

The information on the free and reduced price application will be used by Nutrition Services to decide if your children should receive free and reduced price meals. The information cannot be released to any other program unless an Information Release is signed.
