 Notice to Parents and the Public

 

Federal Grants Administration
 
Boulder Valley School District receives supplemental federal funding through regular annual grants, and grant competitions, that require applications to the US Department of Education, other federal agencies, and/or the Colorado Department of Education.  Usually these applications are made annually.  In the current and coming year (2012-13), these may include the following:
 
Elementary and Secondary Education Act (No Child Left Behind) (Federal)
Title I-A
Provides extra funding to schools with high percentages of low-income students to improve academic achievement in reading and math. Annual and competitive grants are administered by the Colorado Department of Education.
Title II-A
Provides extra funding to ensure that all teachers meet federal standards (Highly Qualified) and for in-service training of teachers and administrators. Annual grants are administered by the Colorado Department of Education.
Title III and III-Immigrant
Provides extra funding for instructional services to English Language Learners, and for teacher training to improve instruction of ELLs. Annual grants are administered by the Colorado Department of Education.
Title VII
Provides supplemental funding for services to American Indian students. Administered by the US Department of Education in cooperation with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Title X
Provides supplemental funding for services to homeless students. Competitive grants are administered by the Colorado Department of Education.
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) (Federal)
Investing in Innovation (I-3)
Provides competitive grants for innovative practices that are improve student achievement or student growth, close achievement gaps, decrease dropout rates, increase high school graduation rates, or increase college enrollment and completion rates.
Race to the Top
Provides funding to states for improvement of educational practice in the areas of standards, curriculum and instruction.  Colorado has a Race to the Top award active from 2012-2015; funds have been awarded to local districts for reform projects. 
National Science Foundation (Federal)
Math-Science Partnerships
Provides competitive grants to improve the content knowledge of teachers and the performance of students in the areas of mathematics and science, through partnerships between state agencies, institutions of higher education and local K-12 districts.
Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) (FEDERAL)
Part A
Provides extra funding for services to students with disabilities, mainly through staffing.
Part B
Provides extra funding for services to preschool-age children with disabilities. 
 
Consultation With The Public: In accordance with federal law, BVSD receives and shares information regarding district and community needs, and proposed use of federal funds with various committees, task forces and advisory groups which include in their membership parents, staff, and community members, and that exist on an ongoing basis to support district planning. These may include the Board of Education, District Accountability Committee, Parent Council, Parent Engagement Network, public Budget  or Learning in BVSD forums, the Teacher Advisory Committee, and others. Parents, staff and members of the public who are not affiliated with these groups are invited to consult with the district regarding the allocation of any funds received through these federal grant applications, and the planning and implementation of programs supported by these funds, and may do so in two ways:

- Attend a consultation meeting with district staff that will takes place annually in the Spring.  Please see the linked page (Notice to the Public) for information about the most recent or upcoming public consultation.
 - Request information or render advice individually using the feedback form linked below. Comments may be submitted at any time and will be forwarded to the district staff with relevant responsibility for consideration in planning for grants.

From time to time, BVSD may hold separate consultations with the public in preparation for specific competitive grants.  These events are posted approximately 2 weeks prior to the date at this web site and in local newspapers.
Copies of Applications:  Members of the public can review any application made by BVSD for federal or state funding by contacting the Grants Office as noted on the main Grants web page.
