Program Characteristics

Arapahoe High School is unique in a variety ways. It is a highly personalized, high school that is designed to meet the needs of all students but places a special emphasis on students who require a student-friendly environment and an instructional approach based on learning style in order to succeed. Through a variety of options, students receive a Boulder Valley diploma while meeting educational goals.

Classes are based on the quarter system as opposed to the traditional semester system, and through the block schedule format are able to accumulate credits at a faster rate. Students are enrolled in four 80-minute blocks and one 30-minute “thin” per day. This system allows students to accelerate the number of credits earned during a year, while only having to focus on four content areas at a time, which results in a higher degree of concentration within a subject area.

A unique component of Arapahoe High School is that students cannot fail or receive lower than a “C.” Students’ master skills and content within each subject area and teachers are committed to assisting students in attaining mastery. Within this grading system, students may work at their own pace without being penalized.
