Centaurus High School

 About Our School

Points of Pride
  • Centaurus has a comprehensive Engineering Academy that prepares students for admission to nationally accredited colleges of engineering.
  • Centaurus is an International Baccalaureate World School that offers the internationally recognized IB diploma. IB students pursue a rigorous course of study.
  • Centaurus is one of two AVID (Advancement via Individual Determination) high schools in the Boulder Valley School District.
  • The Centaurus motto is “Unity in Diversity.” We embrace a variety of cultures and ideas. Our diversity unites us as a strong and vibrant learning community.

Academic Goals
Centaurus High School is committed to increasing the number of students taking engineering, IB, AP, and other rigorous courses.  A critical element of student success in these courses includes a robust support network with small group or one-on-one tutoring, academic counseling, and enrichment tailored to individual needs. By supporting students in accessing advanced levels of instruction, students are more fully prepared for course work at the university level or other post-secondary studies as well as a lifetime of learning.

School Profile
Centaurus High School is an Engineering School, and an International Baccalaureate Focus School that provides an environment rich in academia. CHS also offers a wide range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Our AP and Honors programs, Fine Arts and Practical Arts programs, Pre- Engineering programs, and exceptional extra-curricular programs ensure that each of our students are prepared for a competitive future.

Our school’s enrollment is just over 1,000 students, ensuring a learning community that is large enough to offer an array of courses and programs, yet small enough to provide individual academic guidance and assistance. We begin our community building in 9th grade with our unique 4-Year Advisory Program and 360 mentoring program.
AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), International Baccalaureate, and Pre-Engineering provide students the most rigorous courses in preparation for highly academic majors at the University level. Both AVID and Pre-Engineering classes are enhanced by partnerships with local universities and community mentors. The Engineering Partnership with the University of Colorado provides students the opportunity for guaranteed admission to the CU School of Engineering. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program provides students with the academic preparation to compete nationally and internationally.

 School Mission and Vision

In addition to honoring a tradition of outstanding academics and superior athletics and co-curricular programs, Centaurus High School continues to prepare young people to be gainful and giving in their community, locally and globally.
