Program Characteristics

Fairview is a comprehensive four-year high school dedicated to excellence in all areas. We are proud of our accomplishments in academics, fine arts and athletics. Our mission at Fairview is to create a culture where students feel safe, challenged and encouraged to be contributing members of society.

Our academic offerings are designed to challenge the potential of each and every student. We offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program, which is a course of study for highly motivated students that promotes higher-level critical thinking skills while mastering a curriculum that meets worldwide standards and criteria. Participation is self-selecting and in 2007-08 over 1000 students took at least one IB or Pre-IB class.

Last year, 100 percent of students who were candidates for the IB diploma were awarded their diploma. Complementing the IB program is a strong Advanced Placement Program where over 450 students took 17 different AP exams with over 75 percent of the students receiving a score of “3” or higher. With both the IB and AP programs being offered, students are able to create individualized programs that best meet their academic needs.

In addition, Fairview offers special programs for several unique populations. We are home to the BVSD Teen Parenting Program, a strong Talented and Gifted program, a wide array of Special Education services, and an At-Risk Intervention Program.

Fairview has a broad range of learning opportunities that foster personal growth, maturity and independent thought. Students who attend Fairview experience a high school career that prepares them to be successful in the global community.
