Geometer's Sketchpad in the Classroom

Social Studies Teachers: EarthPoint
Daniel Rirdan will come and do a training session on EarthPoint: the interactive visual environment of maps, graphs and charts spanning the entire gamut of Social Studies. Mr. Rirdan will walk the teachers through all of EarthPoint's features and also will familiarize teachers with units that hold particular interest to them--be it in world history, economics, civics, human geography or whatever other topic may be of relevance.

Introduction to SharePoint Teacher Websites (2 hours) Prerequisites: Basic computer and MS Word skills.
Learn how to create your own BVSD SharePoint teacher website! This class provides an introduction to the SharePoint teacher website template. Students learn to navigate through their websites; change titles, contact information and images; create folders and upload documents; add and edit homework assignments; and add events to a calendar.

SharePoint Teacher Websites: Open Lab (1 hour) Prerequisites: Participants must have already completed the class SharePoint: Introduction to the Teacher Website.
This work session provides an opportunity for teachers to gain confidence and experience while working independently on their SharePoint websites. Instructors are available to answer questions and provide guidance. You must already have a SharePoint teacher website page.

BVSD Technology Basics: (1 hr) Prerequisite: None
Learn how to save documents in your BVSD server folders to protect against the permanent loss of files if your computer crashes or is attacked by a virus. Outlook Web Access allows BVSD teachers and staff to check email from anywhere internet access is available. EZ Access is the program used to securely access BVSD server folders from home or another off-site location.

Learn tips and shortcuts to work more efficiently and get the most out of Windows 7. This course includes personalizing the display, pinning items to the taskbar and start menu, working with utilities and much more.

What’s New in Office 2010? (1 hr) Prerequisites: Basic computer skills. Preference will be given to teachers who will receive a new computer in 2011-12.
This class provides an overview of the Office 2010 navigation including the Ribbon and Quick Access toolbar. You will learn how to create, save and print documents and use new graphic features to create professional-looking documents.

MS Outlook 2010 (2 hrs) Pre-requisite: Basic computer skills. Preference will be given to teachers who will receive a new computer in 2011-12 and who use the Outlook client (not Outlook Web Access) for their email.
Come and explore Outlook 2010 and learn about the new format and features. We will review how to compose, send and reply to messages, attach files, manage your mailbox by deleting and organizing messages, create contacts and distribution lists, schedule appointments and meetings, share calendars and manage tasks and handle junk e-mail.

MS PowerPoint 2010: Level 1 (2 hrs) Prerequisites: An understanding of basic computer functions (how to use the mouse and keyboard) and MS Word 2007 or 2010.
Learn to create dynamic and informative presentations. The class will cover how to create, add, modify and delete slides; insert pictures, clip art, video and more; work with animations and transitions; and use themes to easily create professional-looking and dynamic presentations.

MS Excel 2010: Level 1 (2 hrs) Prerequisites: An understanding of basic computer functions (how to use the mouse and keyboard).
This course provides instruction in the basic features of Excel 2010. Students will learn to create, edit and format a workbook; navigate worksheets; insert, delete and adjust rows and columns; use cell styles and document themes; and preview and print worksheets. An overview of formulas and AutoSum is also presented.

MS Word 2010: Level 1 (2 hrs) Prerequisites: An understanding of basic computer functions (how to use the mouse and keyboard).
Students will learn to create, save, modify and print documents; check spelling and grammar; cut, copy and paste text and use the Office clipboard; format characters (font type, size and color), paragraphs (alignment, borders, shading, tabs), and pages (margins, page orientation, columns, page breaks); and use styles and themes to create professional-looking documents.
