What should I do First, Second, Third?

VideoPodcast checklist

  1. "Content." What are you going to say? Are you writing down narration or an outline? I like to double-check things I think I have correct, just to make sure I'm not making it up.. Sometimes I can't remember a source, so I Google it, or dig into my library. But, I've also found that you can easily wrap yourself up in this focus and never get out of it.. It is of primary importance, but somehow, you've got to get over that to finish your project.
  2. Record yourself reading the script (getting good at just doing that is a world unto itself. Your voice is a musical instrument and the story teller using verbal language to deliver a message.) Is this something you consider important? Or are you willing to let it go by unprepared without a second glance?
  3. Add Background music to your narration. Make sure your natural flow of speech is honored in where you chose to edit, cut, and paste your background music clips. What's the best level of sound? Does the mood it produces create the desired effect at the right time? It's nice to have tension and release so that you get them going before you hit a climax. Then, either drop back to zero, or just mellow a while in something sweet and slow. Maybe, end with a bang..?
  4. Adding pictures, video, and sound effects to the vocal narration/background track. How's your timing in relationship to the background music? Do things start and stop in ways that flow WITH your flow of speech in the narration track? When do you decide to change transitions and their lengths? I prefer dissolving within a second, but sometimes the big turning cube is undeniably cool -- especially nice and slow..
