Program Characteristics

At Broomfield Heights Middle School, a neighborhood school serving grades six through eight, we embrace and support our richly diverse community though providing a high-level learning environment for all of our students.  At Broomfield Heights, we are part of the greater community of Broomfield and continue to build on our tradition of excellence.  We support middle school priorities of providing the highest quality instruction and learning with a wide range of exploratory choices and extracurricular activities.  We believe in building community through enhancing capacity for student leadership and demonstrating school-wide positive behavior support systems.

We are part of a strong feeder system from elementary through high school and we support all of our students to maximize their achievement during these formative years.  In addition to the required classes of language arts, science, social studies, math, physical education and health, students choose from a variety of elective classes including world languages, art, drama, music, technology and computer education. Two levels of math are taught at each grade to match instruction to the student's skill level.  An emphasis on maintaining low class sizes in math and reading offers more individualized instruction for all students. Our technologically advanced learning environment includes three computer labs as well as varied technology resources in every classroom, which provide teachers and students the opportunity to support and enhance their education beyond the traditional classroom experience.

We offer differentiated and individualized academic programming support for all students within the general education curriculum.  We provide access for all students to learn in an inclusive environment in which learning and “access” specialists team-teach with content specialists to support student achievement and growth.  We offer a variety of special education services to meet the wide range of student needs in their content area classes. Talented and Gifted (TAG) students benefit from classroom enrichment as well as opportunities beyond the classroom through clubs and activities.  Students who are English language learners (emergent-bilingual students) benefit from differentiated instruction in content classes as well as ESL classes, as appropriate.  Extra time and support for all students are provided during a weekly Extended Learning Time (ELT), to provide tutoring and enrichment opportunities, as well as a daily after-school homework club, and an extended learning opportunity (before school) class.
