Program Characteristics

Louisville Middle School is a neighborhood school offering rigorous and focused academic programs. We emphasize Pre-AP curriculum and instructional strategies. These programs have been created by an exceptional staff to offer a wide array of academic classes, elective choices, fine arts, and distinctive technology experiences. We provide rich academic curriculum including: high school preparation and advanced level classes; specialized reading, writing, and math programs; ESL, gifted and talented services; and special education services.

Our learning environment offers computer labs, including a research lab, instructional lab, and Science tablets as well as multiple computer kiosks in our Library Media Center and classes.

We hold all students accountable for high academic and behavioral standards. We support those efforts by providing clinics, academic support time, before and after-school homework help sessions, and counseling groups. The fine and practical arts, physical education, health, drama, music, and world languages provide a multitude of classes for our elective program. Louisville Middle School prides itself on providing comprehensive choices to support each individual learner and to further the development of strong partnerships among students, staff, parents and the community.

Our number one priority will always be our students. Our belief is that students can and do make great life choices when offered structured opportunities to practice decision making. Therefore, we have developed original and distinctive programming to support these adolescent skills. Among our most successful programs are the 7th and 8th grade Rite of Passage Program, counselor-led PRIDE (Bully Proofing/advocacy building) workshops and assemblies, peer mentorship (National Junior Honor Society and Pirate 360), and LMS PRIDE program.

Finally, as a standards-based and student-centered academic learning environment, we know the importance of individualizing curriculum to meet the needs of all learners. Our master teachers work as a team to create challenging lessons that are traditional, rigorous, experiential, interesting and creative. LMS is a special community in which to learn and to work.
