BOULDER – Today (8/24/10), Impact on Education provided $130,000 to Boulder Valley School District principals to provide student’s access to academic, extracurricular and enrichment opportunities that require fees or costs that the student is unable to pay. Created in 2004, the Impact on Education Opportunity Fund reduces the economic barriers that negatively affect the educational experience of BVSD students. The fund covers education-related expenses such as field trips, musical instrument rentals, athletic fees, club fees, science fair materials, art fees, and much more as identified by the school principal.
“The reality of some of our families being under-employed, unemployed, or simply being part of our working poor, has hit home this year with expanded requests from students and families for assistance to participate in these enhanced educational opportunities. The Impact Opportunity Fund is a signature effort of ours because it creates a more level playing field for all our students.’ said Fran Ryan, CEO of Impact on Education.
BVSD Superintendent Chris King, an Impact on Education board member, thanked the school district’s primary community partner for the donation which he said was in keeping with the BVSD promise of “Excellence and Equity.”
Impact on Education is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to increasing student learning, and supporting teacher excellence in BVSD.
