Important Note about Arapahoe Ridge High School

Arapahoe Ridge High School will no longer accept 9th grade students beginning with the 2008-09 school-year. Arapahoe Ridge High School is a career focus high school for 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. After a student has experienced a traditional high school and all that the high school has to offer for 9th grade and then decides that they would rather attend a career focus high school, they may apply for a transfer beginning with their 10th grade year through the open enrollment process.

 About Open Enrollment

The Board of Education supports a variety of high quality educational programs. Students may:

  • attend their district designated neighborhood school (based on home address)
  • open enroll to another neighborhood school
  • open enroll in a focus school (meets BVSD standards but may have a different curriculum or philosophy)
  • open enroll in a charter school (an independent school) within the district

Through open enrollment parents/guardians may choose to enroll in a school outside of their neighborhood as long as there is sufficient programming, staff and space at the school. Parents/guardians who reside outside BVSD may open enroll their children into this district -- currently about 800 of Boulder Valley's students are from neighboring districts.

Study Of BVSD's Open Enrollment System

Although Open Enrollment has existed in BVSD since 1961, it did not truly take hold until the mid-1990s. As more parents availed themselves of this option, it became the focal point of some controversy. The authors undertook this study to systematically describe and evaluate the open enrollment system as it now exists in Boulder Valley School District, and to provide information to BVSD officals, the School Board, and the public. On October 24th, 2000, the authors presented the results of this study, in report form, to the BVSD Board of Education. The executive summmary and recommendations can be found via the link below.
