History: In 2001, the Boulder Valley School District started a task force to develop the new Standards-Based Report Card. The task force worked in collaboration with pilot schools and BVSD teachers from 2001-2004 in an intensive design process to develop the current report card documents. Several schools did early piloting, and full implementation throughout the district began in the fall of 2005. Currently, each elementary school is represented on the Elementary Standards-Based Report Card task force.
Rationale: Colorado has entered an era where student achievement of standards has become very important. State laws in the form of new accreditation guidelines require school districts to provide evidence of student progress in at the elementary level in the non-CSAP areas of science, social studies, art, PE, and music. CSAP will be used for accreditation in the areas of math, reading and writing. The Standards-Based Report Card was designed for the following three purposes: (a) individual progress, (b) student progress for the school improvement process, and (c) attainment of standrds in non-CSAP areas to the Colorado Department of Education for accreditation purposes.
