Nutrition Services Department Harvest Bars
Harvest Bar

The Harvest Bar is a kid-sized self-serve bar featuring a variety of fruits, vegetables, and animal- and plant-based proteins students can choose to try as part of their school lunch, or eat as their complete school lunch.

The goals for the Harvest Bar are to increase student consumption of fruits and vegetables; to offer students more variety and choices; and to increase participation in the school lunch program.

Children are not limited to the number or amount of items taken on the Harvest Bar. Instead, they are encouraged to “Take what you want – but eat what you take.”

Daily offerings include organic spring lettuce mix and a variety of vegetables such as carrots and jicama. Fresh fruit choices include Colorado apples and Texas oranges.  Animal protein choices include diced chicken, hard-boiled eggs, and cottage cheese.  Plant proteins include garbanzo and kidney beans.

A side serving from the Harvest Bar may be added to lunch from home for $1.00.
