Casey Summer Arts and Adventure Program Time: 9:00 – 3:00 Location: Base Camp Casey Middle School Ages:10 -14 Casey and Platt Middle School Students Cost: $220 per week for week 1 and 3, $100 for week 2 (includes lunch and transportation when necessary) Enjoy: adventure, arts (photography, theater, writing/illustration/bookmaking, poetry, sculpture, painting), teambuilding, collaborating and contributing, using your creativity and intellect, discovering special places in your own community, hanging out with friends, meeting new friends Week One: Adventure June 23 - 27 Monday: Team Building (BHS Ropes Course, Initiative Games, Obstacle Course) Tuesday: Downtown Boulder/Pearl Street Mall Scavenger Hunt Themes include: people, history, geography, business and fun! (Possible stops and business/gov. connections – Boulder Bookstore, BJ’s, CommArts, Boulder Theater, Rocky Mountain Chocolate factory, Prana, History Plaques, Wells Fargo Bank, Karakehan’s Photo and Poster Store) Wednesday: Atop Boulder! Chautauqua – Green Mountain Loop (may include basic/safe rock climbing with a renowned climber and Outward Bound instructor) Thursday: What’s In the Water? (Start at Betasso water treatment plant, visit and cool off at several places along Boulder creek as it winds (or not) through Boulder (check out ditch diversions and the agreements made long ago), end at the Waste Water Treatment Plant) Friday: Community Service Poject(s) (Gardening at Cultiva or Long’s Gardens, Dance/movement/yoga with Seniors or preschoolers [Dancer: Joanna Rotkin], design a field day event for a local pre-school maybe The Cottage and use Casey’s lower field.) Short Week Two: Arts in the Afternoon June 30 - July 3 Options include (each option is a full three 1/2 day experience) Bookmaking (digital photography, or writing/illustration) Art (may include pottery, sculpture, painting, drawing) Cooking from Different Continents Week Three: Theater Week July 7-11-- includes acting, stage craft and design, costume-creating, lighting and sound – with a final performance on Friday May include: Reader’s Theater for local pre-schools - dramatize their favorite children’s stories, A Collage of Shorts – for example; folk tales, animal stories, Dr. Seuss collection, etc. One longer play – “The Lorax,” (for example) present at CU’s Mary Rippon Stage to YMCA summer campers, Science Discovery kids, Throne Ecological Institute summer program kids, and/or general public. |
