D06 Exploring Computers
Level: Grade 6
Course Length: Quarter
This course introduces students to computer technology at Casey. Students practice keyboarding skills, create text documents, import clip art and text, build spreadsheets for recording data, begin to make charts and graphs from that data and use the Internet to locate information. Basic hardware and software operations are covered, and students learn how to apply technology tools to their other content-area classes.
D07 Computer Power
Level: Grade 7
Course Length: Semester
Students increase their technology experience and knowledge, using software programs which include PowerPoint and HyperStudio, to create brochures, newsletters, letters, reports, tables, spreadsheets, presentations and other materials that can be used in content-area classes. The emphasis of this course is on developing efficient Internet research skills.
D08 Multimedia Production
Level: Grade 8
Course Length: Semester
Students use digital cameras and scanners, along with advanced software such as iMovie and Photoshop, to design and produce multimedia presentations. Students are encouraged to create presentations for their content-area classes. Some presentations may also be used school-wide.
J20 Applied Technology
Level: Grades 7 and 8
Course Length: Semester
This course is unique and designed for hands-on learning. Students select from over 75 projects in areas such as architecture, robotics, graphic arts/design, laser technology, photography, satellite communications, engineering, CAD, inventions, micro-electronics and woodshop. Students learn the safe and proper use of equipments and tools while completing a self-selected project and documenting their work.
