 6th Grade Supplies

In an effort to allow you to shop at the "mid-summer, back-to-school sales" we are publishing our sixth-grade supply list. You may find as the year gets underway that a few more items may be needed; however, this is a starter kit.

You are responsible for having these "General" supplies all year long:

Colored Pencils

Pencils

1 Large 3-Ring Binder

Notebook Paper (3-hole, loose-leaf)

Highlighters

Red, Blue, and Black Ballpoint Pens

Two Boxes of Tissues

Centennial assignment notebook (available for purchase at the fall check-in.)

Zippered supply pocket that fits in the large 3-ring binder (loose supplies must be kept in a zippered pocket that the student carries with him/her.)

Optional Items

Language Arts Handbook (available for purchase at the fall check-in. This item is optional, but highly recommended.)

Calculator--like a TI-30 (not required, but highly recommended.)

The World Atlas (available for purchase at the fall check-in. This item is optional, but highly recommended.)

Items such as pens, pencils, and notebook paper will need to be replenished often throughout the year. Students should keep their notebooks and lockers well stocked with these items.

Please purchase environmentally friendly whenever possible.

Ink pens (blue or black ink only for Language Arts and Reading)

One pencil bag (to fit in three-ring notebook)

Book covers (plastic, paper, brown bags)

Lined loose-leaf paper (not spiral)

One Box of Tissues for each class

Writers Inc. (available at the fall check-in and highly recommended)

(Red) Nystrom World Atlas 2004 Edition (available at the fall check-in)

Assignment notebook or day-timer (available at the fall check-in)

1-2 Bottles of Whiteout

LANGUAGE ARTS

One spiral notebook (40-70 pages) for Journal

Lined note cards (pastel or white (no neon), minimum of 100 for research unit 2nd semester)

1-1/2 inch, 3-ring binder with five dividers

READING

Folder, notebook or notebook section for handouts/materials

Choice of reading book each day

One packet of sticky notes or post-its small size

3 Colored pens: 1 green, 1 red, 1 purple, etc. – for correcting, etc.

One of your favorite picture books (first week)

Highlighters: at least 3 different colors

MATH

Calculator (example: TI-30)

Graphing paper (1/4")

Individual teachers may have some additional items.

 8th Grade Supplies

GENERAL USE

One 3-ring binder for use in all classes

Pencil bag to fit in 3-ring binder, large

Package of dividers

Sticky notes/Post -Its

White out

Scissors

Package of ring reinforcements

Roll of transparent tape

Pens in blue or black *

Pencils or mechanical pencil with lead *

College ruled, loose-leaf paper (no spiral paper) *

* You will need to restock during the year and may want to keep extra supplies at home.

One single-hole punch (keep at home)

One box of tissues for each class

Writer’s Inc. is optional but highly recommended and often used at home and in high school. It is available for purchase at the fall check-in.

LANGUAGE ARTS
Note: No spiral notebooks and no spiral paper in L.A.!

One package split rings (available at office supply stores but not the very small ones.)

One pocket folder with brads/fasteners for spelling and vocabulary

One 2", 3-ring binder for Language Arts Handbook materials

Five correction pens in different dark colors BUT NO blue or black or pencil for correcting

Two packages white and two packages colored 3x5 cards (either lined or not lined)

Various colored highlighters (at least three)

One hard-covered 2-inch, 3-ring binder for math only

MATH

Ruler (see Science below – you will need a metric ruler also)

100-200 pieces graphing paper (quarter-inch squares is preferable; restock during year.)

Scientific calculator such as the TI-30 is required.

Graphing calculator such as the TI-83 is optional. (Graphing calculators are available for in-class use only.)

Geometry students will need a compass and protractor.

SCIENCE
