Dear Columbine Community,
I am extremely pleased and excited to introduce myself as the new principal of Columbine Elementary. You have a beautiful neighborhood and school here, with an amazing group of parents. While I have not met all of the students, I have met a few and they have welcomed me with open arms.
My career began here in Boulder Valley School District many years ago when I was a bilingual teacher at Escuela Bilingüe Washington. You might be surprised to learn that Ms. Lynn was actually my principal for one year when I taught second and third grade! During my years as a teacher I taught kindergarteners through sixth graders in English and in Spanish, worked as an ESL teacher, and even became a teacher of teachers. After that I was an assistant principal in St. Vrain School District and most recently spent five years as the principal at Northridge Elementary. Having watched Columbine through its growth this past year, I decided that I wanted to return to Boulder Valley and work in this community.
I grew up in Arvada and lived in the Boulder and surrounding area for 23 years. I lived in Oregon for seven years before returning home. I come from a multicultural family that gave me the foundation to understand our diverse community here at Columbine. I have a 16-year-old son named Reese and we are huge Bronco fans. We also like to snowboard, watch movies together and BBQ. I am so glad to be closer to the Flatirons, Pearl Street Mall and Chautauqua since that represents home to me.
Various collaborations began shortly after I was hired in June, beginning with the amazing opportunity to work with Ms. Lynn, who graciously said I can call her any time with questions and advice. Her shoes will be hard to fill! Other collaborations have included working with parents and staff on the hiring of new teachers and an assistant principal, engaging in numerous discussions with parents to better understand the issues they face and the future they see for their children, and joining with the community to develop ideas for the design and function of the new school building. We have also been offered a chance to work closely with the University of Colorado in helping our students to create student friendly designs!
I have a passion for working with schools like Columbine, with both English and Spanish speaking families. In particular, I am committed to working with the entire school community to collaborate and create a professional learning community. We will put together processes where teachers can work together, look at data and make decisions in the best interest of students. I maintain very close ties with students and enjoy being in the classrooms. I believe that all students can succeed and, through collaboration with all members of the learning community, we will make that happen. At Columbine I hope to be a part of a process that shows the community, district and state just how amazing our parents, students and staff are!!

Estoy extremadamente complacido y alegre de presentarme como el nuevo director de la escuela primaria Columbine. Ustedes poseen aquí un vecindario y una escuela muy hermosa, con un grupo increíble de padres. Mientras no he conocido a todos los estudiantes todavía, ya he conocido a algunos y me han recibido con los brazos abiertos.
Mi carrera comenzó hace muchos años aquí en el Distrito Escolar del Valle de Boulder cuando fui un maestro bilingüe en la escuela bilingüe Washington. ¡Usted se sorprenderá al saber que la Sra. Lynn fue mi directora por un año en el cual yo enseñé Segundo y tercer grado! Durante mis años como maestro enseñé Inglés y Español desde preescolar hasta sexto grado, trabajé como maestro de ESL, y hasta me convertí en maestro de maestros. Luego fui Asistente de Director en el Distrito Escolar de St. Vrain y recientemente pase cinco años como Director de la Escuela Primaria Northridge. Viendo el crecimiento de Columbine durante todo este año pasado, decidí que quería regresar al Valle de Boulder y trabajar en esta comunidad.
Crecí en Arvada y viví en Boulder y en las áreas alrededor de Boulder por 23 años. Viví en Oregon por siete años antes de volver a casa. Vengo de una flamilla multicultural la cual me ofreció las bases necesarias para comprender nuestra diversa comunidad aquí en Columbine. Tengo un hijo de 16 años llamado Reese y somos grandes fanáticos de los Broncos. También nos gusta hacer snowboard, ver películas juntos, y hacer asados. Estoy muy alegre de estar cerca de la montaña, el boulevard peatonal de la calle Pearl y Chautauqua ya que éstos representan mi hogar.
Varias colaboraciones empezaron justo después de que yo fui contratado en Junio, comenzando por la maravillosa oportunidad de trabajar con la Sra. Lynn, quien muy amablemente me dijo que la podía llamar en cualquier momento con preguntas y para que me diera consejos. ¡Va a ser difícil sustituirla! Otras colaboraciones han incluido trabajar con padres y personal para la contratación de nuevos maestros y de un asistente directivo, verme envuelto en numerosas discusiones con los padres para así entender mejor los problemas que ellos afrontan y el futuro que ellos ven para sus hijos, y reunirme con la comunidad para así desarrollar ideas para el diseño y funcionalidad del nuevo edificio de la escuela. ¡También nos han ofrecido la oportunidad de trabajar en conjunto con la Universidad de Colorado ayudando a nuestros estudiantes creando diseños amigables para ellos!
Es mi pasión trabajar para escuelas como Columbine, con familias de habla inglesa y española. En particular, estoy comprometido a trabajar con toda la comunidad de la escuela para colaborar y crear una comunidad profesional de aprendizaje. Juntos crearemos procesos donde los maestros puedan trabajar juntos, ver los datos y tomar decisiones teniendo en mente el mejor interés de los estudiantes. Yo mantengo lazos cercanos con los estudiantes y disfruto estar dentro de los salones de clases. Creo que todos los estudiantes pueden alcanzar el éxito académico y, a través de la colaboración con todos los miembros de la comunidad educativa, haremos que eso suceda. ¡En Columbine espero ser parte de un proceso que le demuestre a la comunidad, distrito y estado que tan increíbles son nuestros padres, estudiantes y empleados!
