Learning to read and write fluently is the goal of the first grade team. We accomplish this through our philosophy of using a balanced literacy approach in our daily instruction. Our instructional practices include modeled, shared, guided and independent reading and writing. We believe in using multiple approaches to teach reading to insure that each child's individual learning style and needs are met. Our entire morning is our literacy block, dedicated to reading and writing activities.
