Schools with a strong art program excel academically. The Kohl school library program seeks to promote competent, independent lifelong learners. The BVSD Standards for Visual Arts are continually addressed within the classroom. Every trimester two or three of the standards will be assessed on the grade reports so that by the end of the year all of the standards have appeared on the grade card.
BVSD VISUAL ARTS STANDARDS
Standard # 1 - Communication
- Students recognize and use the visual arts as a form of communication.
Standard # 2 - Perception
- Students know and apply elements of art, principles of design and sensory and expressive features of visual arts.
Standard # 3 - Materials and Techniques
- Students know and apply visual arts materials, tools, techniques, processes and technology.
Standard # 4 - History and Culture
- Students relate the visual arts to various historical and cultural traditions.
Standard #5 - Analysis
- Students analyze and evaluate the characteristics, merits and meanings of works of art.
