Teaching Experience:
This is my 17th year of teaching.  I started my career in Miami, Florida teaching 3rd grade.  This is my 14th year at LES.  This year I am teaching 3rd.  I have previously taught 2nd/3rd, 4th and 5th grades at LES.
Hobbies or personal interests:
Family time! I also love anything outdoors, but have a special love for the ocean and swimming.  I also enjoy kayaking, camping, traveling with my family, hiking, geocaching, reading and gardening.
What do you enjoy most about teaching?
The kids!  I enjoy learning something new from them everyday...they truly teach me and their energy is contagious.  I also enjoy the partnerships that are formed with parents and families.  Their support is truly amazing.  Thank you to the Lafayette community, staff, and kids...I love teaching at Lafayette Elementary!

MS - University of N.Dakota - Grand Forks
K-5 Classroom Endorsement - Regis University

I am starting my 31st year in public education.  I worked as a speech and language specialist for 19 years and I am now beginning my 12th year in 3rd grade.  I have worked at LES since 1991.  I spent my first 7 years in speech and language and the past eleven years I have taught 3rd grade.

Hobbies & Personal interests:
Reading & traveling; walking my dog Saide; weight training.  I enjoy working with the Boulder Valley Education Association as their secretary and as a negotiator.

What do you enjoy most about teaching?
I enjoy challenging students to meet their potential and motivating them to learn.  I am always so excited to see students grow in their skills and development as the school year progresses.  Working with highly motivated and skilled colleagues is always an enjoyable experience.  I am very excited to continue teaching at LES for another school year under Dr. Hultgren's excellent leadership.

Mrs. Emily Tate (1st on left)

I grew up in Denver and went to the Colorado College where I majored in English and Creative Writing. After college, I spent several years working on organic farms, volunteering at a wolf refuge and teaching outdoor education. My husband and I moved to Vermont for three years after we got married. During that time, I got my Masters in Education at Antioch New England Graduate School and taught third and fourth grade for a semester. We are now happy to be back in Colorado and close to family.

For the past two years I've taught at Nederland Elementary. Last year I taught fourth grade. I spend a lot of my free time hiking with my dog, Milo, around Boulder. I also love to sing, play guitar, knit, read, write, garden, ski and do yoga. This is my first year teaching at Lafayette. I can't wait to do lots of fun projects with my students and learn alongside them throughout the year!

Mrs. Barb Watson (on the far right)

I was born and educated in Bristol, England. I have bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences from Plymouth University, where I also worked as a Research Assistant and taught undergraduates in the areas of social sciences, geography and environmental sciences. I completed 3 years of a PhD program during that time. I trained to be an elementary teacher in 1987 and loved the move to working with children. Since then I taught grades 1 through 6 in the U.K.

I moved to Louisville, Colorado with my husband and two boys in 1997, where I gradually worked my way back into teaching as a substitute, part-time 3rd grade teacher and full time fifth grade teacher at Louisville Elementary. During this time I studied for my principal's licensure and gained my master's degree in education from CU, Denver. Between 2006 and 2009 I was an Assistant Principal at Eldorado K-8, Superior where I learned more than I could possibly hope to replicate from a fabulous teaching staff. Now I am back in the classroom doing what I do best; teaching elementary students. I am very excited and proud to be part of an equally wonderful staff at Lafayette Elementary.

I am passionate about learning, but I love to write, read, draw/paint, walk my dog, hang out with my husband and sons, and do all the things that help a busy family work and play well together.

I look forward to getting to know you and the wider school community of Lafayette Elementary School.

Introducing: Jennifer Gustafson and Jennifer Lawson. They are joining the third grade team in Mrs. Covington's and Mrs. Mulford's rooms from the Friends School Program. It is wonderful to have them on our team.
