Welcome Back to School and the 2009-2010 School Year!
Dear Sanchez Family,
We are so excited to start the new school year. The Sanchez team has been working hard to get everything ready for all of our wonderful students. While we don’t have any brand new staff, several staff members have changed assignments. Mrs. Kendrick and Mrs. Mesches are joining the second grade team this year, Mrs. Montoya will be teaching 5th grade and Mrs. Sanders and Mr. Swift will be teaching 4th grade and then moving up with the students to teach 5th grade next year. Mrs. Mitchell is stepping into our IB coordinator role and will also be helping first grade. Mrs. Wild will be working to support our students in learning math, and Ms. Mandel will be working to support our teachers and students in literacy. We added a third class of full day kindergarten and were very happy that Mrs. Krebill was ready to return to Sanchez as a kindergarten teacher. All the staff are in their places and anxious to get your children off to a great school year.
We have spent the first week of school looking at all of our students’ spring assessments to determine their learning needs and planning for instruction. This year we are adding a half hour scheduled Enrichment Block to our school day. During this time each student will receive instruction focused on specific individual learning needs. The goal of this block is to enrich each student’s learning experience. We will be sharing more about Enrichment Block throughout the year.
Also, new this year is improved nutrition in our breakfast and lunch program. The menu items have been upgraded and offer much more variety and quality. We will continue to provide breakfast each day for all of our students at no cost. The Harvest Salad Bar that was introduced last year has been upgraded to include a more fresh fruits, protein choices and more variety. The children are enjoying all the beautiful fresh food and icy cold milk. It is such a good feeling to see them eating all the healthy food.
Please help us keep your children safe by dropping them off in the designated drop off areas including Merlin Drive on the south side of the school, the parking lot turn around on the north side of the school, and in front and back of the bus drop off. The Lafayette Police Department will be patrolling randomly and will give tickets for illegal parking.
We are still looking for parents to represent our school on the District Accountability Committee and BVSD Parent Council. Please let me know if you are interested in any of these opportunities to have a voice in district issues related to Sanchez. We are also hoping to see you at the Parent Teacher Association meeting on September 8th at 6:00 p.m. in the school library (childcare is provided).
One of our goals this year is to provide parents with a variety of ways to be involved and in the school. We hope that we will continue to build a strong partnership with you to ensure that your child has a successful school experience.
Sincerely,
Doris Candelarie
