Coming Home
- On Monday, you should have seen a newsletter, a homework options sheet, information about stockings for soldiers and your child’s report card coming home in your child’s homework folder.
- This Friday your child’s math test (place value, addition, subtraction) will be sent home. Students started these last Friday and will be given a chance to finish them early this week.
This Week in Class
In writing, we are continuing to publish! Students have worked hard to finish their drafts, revisions, and proofreading. They can choose to handwrite or type their published draft, create a cover, make a dedication page, and illustrate their writing piece. We have worked hard this past trimester on each step of the writing process and we’re excited to celebrate by publishing and sharing our writing.
In reading this week, students will finish the activity they started last week to find, identify and define the features of non-fiction books such as table of contents, maps, tables and captions. Students will continue to monitor their “inner conversation” as they read non-fiction text with a focus on what happens to their conversation when they see or learn new information and vocabulary. Students will then identify what they have learned to add to their background knowledge.
In math, we will continue to work on subtraction with and without regrouping, since this proved to be the most difficult concept for students to master on last week’s test. We will also give the pre-test which we will use to help us group students for the upcoming math unit. This unit will focus on multiplication concepts and facts.
On Wednesday afternoon we will attend the fifth grade drama club performance and on Friday afternoon we will attend our first PRIDE pep rally. What an exciting week!
