Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer opportunities range from serving on a committee to baking for school events or volunteering in the classroom. These opportunities are available to sign up either through the students' teachers or a volunteer sign-up list sent out by the BCHSA during the beginning of school year.

Classroom volunteers: Individual teachers will send information home or have a sign-up sheet regarding specific volunteer needs including classroom assistance, field trips, and help organize seasonal activities.

Health Room volunteers: Parents are highly encouraged to help with one hour or more in the health room to give basic first aid and TLC to needed students. No medical background is required but basic first aid training is necessary and is provided free of charge by BVSD. Volunteers can also help with updating student health records and assist with the annual hearing and vision screening tests. Please call the office at 499-8555 for more information.

Library volunteers: Help students with research, checking out and returning books and shelf books.

Music volunteers- in performance groups: Piano accompanist for Spotlights, assistance for choir rehearsals, and videographer in music class.

Music volunteers- in classroom: Share knowledge of other countries/cultures for classroom studies and accompany classroom singing with musical instruments.

Physical Education volunteers: Help kindergarteners in small groups of 4-6 with variety of activities that benefit different motor development and academic learning each week.

Computer Lab volunteers: Assist students in the computer lab. Training will be provided if necessary.

English as a second language volunteer: Assist as an interpreter for a class, child or parent.

Office volunteers: Be on call for days when the office needs extra help and stuff envelopes in June with reports, calendars, supply lists, etc.

Enrichment volunteers: Many of these activities meet outside of school hours. Training will be provided if needed. Volunteers needed include science class assistants, science fair judges and helpers, before and after school TAG activities.

Home and School Association Activites: Help during school picture days and fundraising events like Fun Fest and Sock Hop, help with the yearbook and book fair, and make meals for teachers during parents/teachers' conferences and Teacher and Staff Appreciation week.

Sharing your special interest or expertise with Bear Creek students.

Fundraising Activities/Events

The Bear Creek PTO has implemented The Bear Creek Challenge as its sole fundraising event.  The Bear Creek Challenge was created as an opportunity for parents and interested friends of Bear Creek to come together as a community through direct contributions that support outstanding learning experiences and programs for our Bear Creek students.  The Challenge runs from August 21 – October 31, 2008.

The major advantages are:

It’s fast and easy:
            Just write one check!

It’s an effective use of your funds:
Bear Creek will retain 100% of your donation.

It provides tax benefits to you:
Since goods/services are not received, your contributions are tax deductible.

It’s a one time event:
The Bear Creek Challenge is our sole-fundraising effort, designed to collect contributions            sufficient to fund school programs and projects year around.

Please note that BCPTO holds a 501c tax exempt status and can accept matching contributions from your employer.
