Continental Math League
This is an after-school math program for 2nd through 5th graders. Students participate in three monthly contests, from January through March. Tests are held at Foothill, scored locally, and the top six results are then forwarded to the national organization. The CML web site has more details. Parent volunteers run this after school program.
E.S.P. (Extracurricular Studies Program)
Three Fridays in April parent volunteers share special talents and interests with 5th grade students.
Extra Eyes
In addition to paid supervisors, parents volunteer during lunch recesses so that we have extra eyes to keep our students safe while they enjoy recess.
Foothill Kids Care
Volunteers organize opportunities for students to participate in community service. Events may include the Boulder Creek Clean Up, sorting at Community Food Share and Share-a-Toy. Our school Talent Show also performs at a local nursing home.
Freiker
Freiker (frequent biker) is a program which encourages students to bike (scooter or skateboard) to school by awarding prizes to students based on the number of days biked during the school year. Volunteers are needed to meet students arriving at school on certain days - for example when prizes are awarded or when it is Walking Wheeling Wednesday. Volunteers are also needed to help raise funds for the prizes and to help with the end of school Freiker party and bike swap.
Geography Bee
After the chair obtains materials from the National Geographic Society, volunteers conduct review sessions with students after school. This culminates in the Foothill Geography Bee, which requires about a 2½ hour commitment from a judge, a parent, and a teacher.
Lego Robotics
Twenty 4th and 5th grade studnets create and write software to accomplish a robotic mission. Parent leaders are needed to run this activity. See www.firstlegoleague.org for more information.
