Monarch High School is honored to receive the designation of Excellent on the School Accountability Report for the 2007-2008 School Year. The overall performance rating is based on our State assessment (CSAP and ACT) scores from the 2007-2008 year and is among the top 8% of schools across the state of Colorado. Our growth, which is based on a comparison of our students’ yearly growth on CSAP to that of others, is Typical. Our high level of performance has resulted in our school being a winner of the John Irwin School of Excellence Award for the 2007-2008 School Year. You will find a copy of this report enclosed in this January Newsletter. Additional information on the report can be found at http://reportcard.cde.state.co.us/reportcard/CommandHandler.jsp.
This report includes important information for us; however, it is only one piece of information. We also place a high level of importance on parent satisfaction, school climate surveys, staff attitudes and the many measures of student achievement that we continually monitor as a part of our improvement process. Some of this information is reported on the enclosed customized school report card, which we are distributing to complement the state document.
We appreciate your continued support of our school and your contributions to making our school the best place for students to learn. We want you to know that for us the pursuit of excellence is a continuous quest. We know that we have more work to do in helping all students to become academically successful. Concerning the No Child Left Behind Act, Monarch High School did not make Adequate Yearly Progress. We were evaluated on 23 targets and we met 21. Overall, the Adequate Yearly Progress targets give us a clear indication of those students with whom we need to continue to focus more effort, specific strategies, and targeted resources in order to increase their achievement.
To complement and support the high achievement of our students, we will continue to work on getting better at what we do to further student success both here at Monarch and as students began exploring their path in life beyond high school. Monarch High School teachers are committed to ongoing professional development in order to meet and be responsive to the learning needs of our students. We also are continuing to increase our communication efforts, create a more welcoming school environment, and fulfill our role as being the community school for Louisville and Superior.
