Is New Vista the right school for you?
Based on our experience, successful New Vista students
are willing to be partners with teachers, parents and other adults;
are willing to be partners with other students;
work hard when they are treated with respect and given independence;
believe a school should be a community of learners;
advocate for themselves and negotiate with others to solve problems;
are ready for more responsibility for their own learning.
Based on our experience, New Vista does not work well for students who
behave irresponsibly;
function best with textbook based learning;
resist conflict resolution and are accustomed to solving problems with force or intimidation;
have significant problems with substance abuse;
have a hard time making transitions from one environment to another;
need adult presence and strong external controls to function and learn;
have difficulty functioning in cooperative learning groups with different kinds of students;
have difficulty with independent learning;
are accustomed to and happy with just getting by;
don't want close attention paid to their work and behavior;
have had a recent placement in an intensive treatment or educational program without a successful transition to a mainstream learning environment.
