Boulder Youth Body Alliance (BYBA) is a youth-directed program that cultivates healthy teen role models who promote a positive body image to their peers. If selected for BYBA, you can participate in one of two programs: the Peer Education program or PROJECT GIRL. The Peer Education program works on school-based and community eating disorders prevention education and activism work, and you are trained to talk about how to help your friends with eating problems, myths about dieting, resisting media influences, and standing up and speaking out around weight-related teasing. PROJECT GIRL is an arts-based initiative created to enable girls to become more critical consumers of contemporary media. What sets us apart is the use of art as a means to educate, inspire, reflect, transform, and encourage social change. You will have the opportunity to mentor younger students in middle schools, using art created from your own unique experiences.
Training and meeting times differ among the programs. PROJECT GIRL meets on Tuesdays after school, and the Peer Education program meets on Tuesday evenings. Contact Carmen Cool 303-440-5775, CarmenCCool@yahoo.com
