 BVSD Vision and Belief Statements

Our Vision: Boulder Valley School District will be a coherent, Pre-K through grade 12 system of
schools dedicated to supporting and engaging students to learn at optimal levels.

Our Mission: To captivate all learners and eliminate the gap in any student's learning.

 Principles and Belief Statements

Principles underlying this mission and vision:

  • A guaranteed and viable standards-based curriculum exists for teachers to use so that every child is engaged in enriched learning experiences.
  • Curriculum-based assessments are available for teachers so that each student’s learning can be monitored and evaluated for progress.
  • Differentiated instruction allows for all students to find the enrichment or intervention they need to learn at their potential.
  • School-based structures afford teachers the time to engage in a problem-solving process of collecting and analyzing data, working with their colleagues to design and modify instruction to meet the learning needs of each student and evaluating the effectiveness of instruction.
  • District structures provide guidance for research-based practices that support first-rate learning for English Language Learners, identified Special Education students, students receiving meal assistance and Latino students who speak English as their first language, all students we know to be underperforming in our district. In addition we know that Talented and Gifted and Twice Exceptional students often under perform when they are not sufficiently challenged.
  • Professional development is designed to help teachers and service providers develop the knowledge, aspirations, skills, abilities and behaviors necessary to address each student’s unique needs.
  •  An intentional culture, founded on core values and maintained by frequent collection of evidence, provides the requisite safe and welcoming environment necessary for high-quality learning.
  • School and district leadership ensures that a well-organized, coherent system of quality classrooms, assessments and interventions exist and that resources are allocated differentially and managed with the intent to provide the support closest to the child in the classroom.

 BVSD Belief Statements:
We believe...

  •  Cultural proficiency underlies all decisions and actions.

  •    Every child can learn and achieve high standards as a result of effective teaching.

  •   Every child must have access to a rigorous, relevant, standards-base curriculum and
    research-based instruction.

  •   Intervening at the earliest indication of need is necessary for student success in our ages 3-21 system.

  •   A comprehensive system of tiered interventions is essential for addressing the full range of students’ academic and behavioral needs.

  •   Engagement in the full cycle of inquiry (TIES) will inform our instructional decisions and result in improved academic and behavioral outcomes for every student.

  •   Collaboration among educators, families and community members is the foundation to effective problem-solving and instructional decision-making.

  •   Ongoing and meaningful engagement of families increases student success.

  •    Every member of the school community must continue to gain knowledge and develop expertise in order to build capacity and sustainability.

  •   Effective leadership at all levels is crucial for the implementation of RtI.
