New Opportunities

I started Kindergarten in a small Nebraska community nearly 50 years ago and I have been energized by the start of school every year since.  The start of the school year creates new opportunities for students and the educators who create and deliver learning opportunities.  Following a fun and relaxing summer break, it is time to initiate a new year which will bring a fresh start for everyone.

As a student, I looked forward to meeting my teachers, renewing friendships with classmates and meeting new students.  I recall early in the school year my teachers communicated expectations and I was ready to engage in new learning activities.  When the year starts, educators design meaningful lessons and they work to develop relationships with students so they can deliver personalized learning.  Parents invest many hours and personal resources preparing their children for the start of school.  Regardless of our role or responsibility, the beginning of the school year provides an opportunity to engage in meaningful educational experiences that will last a life time.

I am looking forward to the start of my first school year as superintendent of Boulder Valley School District.  After spending the last month working with employees, parents, students and community members, I am confident this will be an excellent school year, promoting excellence, equity and a safe positive learning environment for all students.
