Follow up on Heat Mitigation Plans and Proposed Calendar Revisions
In follow up to the August situation of hot classrooms in BVSD, I presented an Operational Heat Mitigation Action Plan, Communications Plan, and a slightly revised 2012-13 calendar to the Boulder Valley Board of Education during its regularly scheduled Sept. 27 meeting. These proposals will be brought before the board for action in the Oct. 11 meeting.
The proposed operational heat mitigation actions focus on strategies that will help the HVAC systems work more efficiently and effectively. An element of the communications plan would be to provide suggestions to parents and students on preparing for the heat such as staying hydrated and wearing lightweight clothing. The proposed calendar changes allow for the school year to begin four days later in 2012-13, so the first day of school for 1st-5th and 6th and 9th grade students would be on Monday, August 20, 2012, instead of Wednesday, August 15.
A detailed account of the proposed plans and calendar revisions was provided to staff in Friday’s On the Inside employee newsletter, which is available online at http://www.bvsd.org/newsletter/Pages/9-27-11.aspx.
I welcome feedback on the proposal. Please email me at superintendent@bvsd.org.
