Brandy Dreibelbis, Chef/District Manager, BVSD Food Services, was selected as the sole 2016 greenBVSD champion. Brandy was nominated by Ann Cooper who said she has been instrumental in promoting sustainability in the Food Service Department.

Here are a few of the sustainability programs that Brandy has helped with:

  • Implemented composting in all of our production kitchens
  • Partnered with a local farmer to trade compost (to feed pigs) for fresh produce
  • Replaced cardboard boxes with reusable bread trays for transporting tortillas from the vendor
  • Worked with beef and chicken companies to replace cardboard boxes with reusable bins
  • Replaced cardboard boxes with RPCs for transporting apples from our farm vendor
  • Works directly with Community Food Share to have leftover food picked up to be utilized for their at risk community
  • Coordinates with production kitchens to collect plastic bread and other plastic bags and has them delivered to Eco-cycle
