‚ÄčLoran Lattes, Librarian at Whittier International Elementary School
selected by Colorado Department of Education as a Highly Effective School Library program

Loran Lattes and the Whittier International Elementary School library were selected as a Highly Effective School Library program as part of the Colorado Department of Education's recognition of school libraries. They join a prestigious group of school libraries across the state that improve student achievement and prepare students for 21st century success.

In order to receive this recognition, librarians and their schools must complete a rigorous evaluation and rubric process that includes demonstrating the following four competencies:

  1. Planning and the development of a yearly growth plan
  2. Instructional Specialist for Staff and Students with an emphasis on instructional practices, assessment and collaboration
  3. Leadership at both the school and district levels
  4. Library Management
