Each school in the Boulder Valley School District provides opportunities for advanced students to excel. This list, although not comprehensive, suggests some of the many ways in which schools serve gifted students. Contact your local school to discuss their interventions on behalf of their gifted and academically advanced students.
Recognition of individual differences and strengths.
Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs) or Learning Contracts.
Schools of choice.
Differentiated curriculum and instruction.
Cluster grouping od similar students in the same classes.
Acceleration by subject or grade.
Curriculum compacting such as a 6-week unit in 4 weeks to "buy" 2 weeks to work on alternative learning.
Summer and Saturday programs.
Mentorships and Internships.
Multi-age grouping.
Independent studies and contracts.
Enrichment and competitions such as destination Imagination, Science and Engineering fair, and National History Day.
Pull out for specific classes.
Counseling.
Advanced middle school and high school courses.
International Baccalaureate Program and classes.
Advanced Placement classes.
Affective needs (social-emotional) workshops, groups and classes to address general or specific concerns of gifted children.
Attendance at the next level of schooling for certain classes.
Post Secondary Option (PSO) and Concurrent Enrollment such as high school students also taking classes at CU or FRCC, middle school students also taking classes at high school or elementary students also taking classes at middle school.
