About Us

The Transportation Department is comprised of approximately 300 people who provide transportation for more than 8,500 students per day, or approximately 17,000 students trips per day.  Using 250 student transportation vehicles (buses, suburbans, and multi-use vehicles), the Transportation Department provides safe and effecient service to students of our district and the 54 schools which they attend.

In addition, the Transportation Department vehicle maintenance facility repairs and maintains more than 250 district support vehicles, grounds equipment, and back up generators for our schools.

Operating out of 3 bus terminals, Boulder, Lafayette, and Nederland, our buses traverse approximately 2.5 million miles per year both inside the 500 square miles that comprise BVSD and on activity trips throughout the Front Range and beyond.

In order to safely transport our students our drivers undergo an initial 60 hours of basic training and then obtain additional training for specialized driving assignments such as special needs student transportation and mountain driving.  New drivers are evaluated for driving skills and student management upon route assignment and then again within 60 days.  All drivers undergo an annual Driving Performance Test and/or a monitored route Ride Check administered by the Training Staff.

Besides the Training Team, Transportation Staff includes Dispatchers, Routers, Clerical, Supervisors, Mechanic Technicians, and Parts Specialists, all ready and eager to serve the students, parents, and schools of the Boulder Valley School District.
