Board of Education

Like all school districts in Colorado, Boulder Valley School District is governed by an elected Board of Education. The Boulder Valley Board of Education has seven members who each represent one of seven different districts throughout the geographical area of BVSD. Each member serves one four-year term per election up to a maximum of two terms or eight years total service.

We provide the opportunity for public participation during most regular business meetings.

The Board allows a maximum of 60 minutes of public comment during the public hearing and/or public participation portion of the agenda. The Board typically allows each individual to speak for two minutes. During times of high public engagement, the Board may decrease individual speaking time to hear from more individuals. Agenda items will be prioritized over non-agenda items, and students are allowed to speak first. Additional speakers may address the Board at the conclusion of the meeting agenda, if time allows. All comments and the names of individuals offering public comment will become part of the permanent record.

Your request to speak at the meeting must be made prior to 12 p.m. on the day of the meeting by completing the Public Participation Form (English) or Solicitud de participación pública (Spanish).

On Tuesday, May 26th, the Board will allow public participation specifically on the Proposed 2026-2027 budget. If you would like your opportunity to address the Board regarding the budget, please complete the Request to provide input on the 26-27 budget form. Requests to speak must be submitted no later than noon on the day of the meeting.

If you have questions for the Board Secretary, you may call 720-561-5114, or email laura.shafer@bvsd.org.
