SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER INSURANCE & COMPENSATION

Insurance

The Board shall purchase liability insurance and errors-and-omissions insurance to protect its members individually and collectively for claims made against them as a result of their membership on the Board.

Compensation

Board Members shall receive compensation for their services on a per diem basis for attendance at regular and special Board meetings, no more than five (5) days per month. Board Members will be responsible for requesting such compensation in one single monthly request on an approved form. The amounts received will be a public record.

Reimbursement

Upon submitting vouchers and supporting bills for expenses incurred in carrying out specific services previously authorized by the Board, Board Members may be reimbursed from district funds in amounts approved by a majority vote of the Board in a public meeting.

Such expenses may include the cost of attendance at conferences of school boards associations and other professional meetings/visitations when such attendance and expense payment has had prior Board approval.

Taxes and PERA

Board members will be responsible for compliance with all laws implicated by the receipt of compensation for their Board services, including but not limited to taxes and participation in the Colorado Public Employees’ Retirement Association (PERA) in accordance with PERA rules.
