FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE FOOD SERVICES

The Board of Education establishes the following criteria for determining an individual's eligibility for free or reduced-price meals:

The District reviews and follows the recommendations of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) pertaining to requirements, regulations, and guidelines for the provision of free and reduced-price meals in the schools.

Free and reduced price meals will be provided to students from families qualifying according to the income eligibility guidelines listed in the Federal Register Notice. Applications for free and reduced price meals are available and processed at the individual school sites. If an application for free and reduced price meals is denied, parents or guardians may appeal this decision to the Director of Food Services and a hearing will be conducted under the hearing procedure prescribed in Section 9 of the National School Lunch Act, as amended. Prior to the hearing, the student will receive free or reduced price breakfast and/or lunch.

There shall be no overt identification nor discrimination against students eligible for free and reduced price meals, nor shall eligible students be required to work for their meals.
