USE OF SCHOOL VEHICLE BY COMMUNITY GROUPS

Transportation equipment purchased by the School District is to be used primarily for school purposes and taxpayers shall not be expected to subsidize busing equipment or personnel not necessary for School District purposes. Consistent with Colorado law, the Board of Education authorizes use by appropriate community groups to the extent that such use does not impinge upon or impair use for School District purposes.

Community groups composed of citizens 65 years of age and older may qualify for the use of school transportation equipment. Groups shall consist of at least five people, be nondiscriminatory, and use shall not be partisan, potentially dangerous or disruptive, or activities of similar nature that are inappropriate for School District association. Groups shall have adequate insurance coverage and pay the actual costs involved in the use of school transportation equipment.

Non-school use of school transportation equipment shall not be intermingled with student transportation, nor shall it interfere with:

  • Student transportation to, from, or between schools,
  • Student transportation for school activities and functions,
  • Emergency transportation for students,
  • Time required for maintenance and service of equipment,
  • Provision of standby equipment for school purposes.

All use shall be subject to the availability of appropriate equipment and personnel and approval of the Superintendent’s designee.
