NAMING OF FACILITIES
The Board of Education believes the naming of a facility is a matter of great importance. Naming of a facility could include the (1) naming of a new building or a newly created school, (2) naming an area of a building, (3) renaming a school, (4) naming a facility or an area of a facility recognizing individuals providing some economic benefit in exchange for a naming opportunity.
Schools will be named for physical locations; geographical areas; distinguished local, state, and national leaders whose names will lend dignity and stature to the school; or significant or pertinent events.
Schools periodically desire to name an area of their facility after a person that has made a significant educational contribution to their school. Areas may include an auditorium, gymnasium, library, athletic field or other major areas of a school.
The renaming of a school shall be considered only when district restructuring creates a new school or in other extraordinary circumstances deemed by the Board of Education.
Individuals who have provided financial donations for the construction of a facility or an area of a facility may be eligible for naming opportunities for that facility. These will be reviewed by the Board of Education on a case-by-case basis.
Procedures for the naming of facilities are outlined in Administrative Regulation FF-R.
