Blake Peterson Lifetime Achievement Award Silvia Latimer, Interventionist, Columbine Elementary Additionally, Columbine Elementary Interventionist Silvia Latimer was named the first-ever winner of the Blake Peterson Lifetime Achievement Award.

Designed in 2017 to honor the legacy of past Impact on Education Board Chair, Blake Peterson, the award celebrates an individual who has, consistently over the course of many years, catalyzed positive change within BVSD, leaving an indelible mark, similar to that of the award's namesake. Blake deeply valued public education as the son of a university professor and a Whittier Elementary teacher in Boulder, and he devoted his life to community service and the support of quality public education for all students. \

Silvia Latimer, the 2018 and first winner of the Blake Peterson Lifetime Award, has taught at Columbine since 2007 and has served as an educator for the past thirty years. Her work to include and empower Latino families at Columbine and at the district level has blazed a trail for others to follow, and that charisma she shows in her family and leadership roles originates in the magic she displays working with her students, guiding them to be readers and to love learning.

In the words of Blake's family, who selected her out of a pool of 27 highly qualified individuals throughout BVSD, "Silvia Latimer stood out as a lifetime educator who has committed her career to transforming students' lives and building bridges that elevate and enhance the entire school community. She forges strong and enduring relationships with students through love, respect and high expectations. Referred to as a 'teacher whisperer', Ms. Latimer quietly and humbly mentors other teachers and administrators....[and] for decades, she has selflessly shared expertise, modeled extraordinary commitment to educating and empowering students, and has inspired a caring and cohesive learning community."
