BVSD

Dear BVSD Community,

We hope you are enjoying Summer Break.

We want to once again express our gratitude to everyone who participated in the Resilient Schools engagement process. Hundreds of community members joined us at engagement sessions, and thousands more shared their perspectives through the digital survey. Thank you for taking the time to engage in this important conversation.

From the beginning, our commitment was to listen before taking action. The values, priorities and perspectives shared by our community will help guide the difficult decisions ahead, as we consider how best to position BVSD for the future.

One message was clear: our community understands that declining enrollment presents real challenges and that maintaining high-quality educational experiences for students may require change. We also heard a strong desire to preserve what makes BVSD special—excellent teaching and learning, strong school communities, and opportunities for every student to thrive.

Following the presentation of the engagement findings, the Board of Education provided additional direction to district staff. The Board emphasized the importance of avoiding a scenario where we have to return-time-and-time-again to our community with additional changes, instead of addressing the situation sustainability from the beginning.

The months ahead will involve thoughtful analysis, careful planning and difficult conversations. Throughout the summer, district staff will continue to review data, evaluate options and prepare recommendations for the Board's consideration in August. Once the proposal is developed, we will communicate openly and the public will have an opportunity to provide feedback at Board meetings. A final decision is expected from the Board this fall.

You can also expect us to do everything possible to support the school communities most directly impacted by any potential changes every step of the way.

The Board is in recess between now and August, so you won’t miss a thing if you turn off the computer and focus on summer activities. Let’s take this opportunity to rest, reflect and celebrate all that we have accomplished together. We are grateful for your partnership and look forward to working with you to address declining enrollment when school resumes in the fall.

Sincerely,

Rob Anderson
