Active Shooting Situation at King Soopers in Boulder

We are holding our collective breaths as we watch the unfolding events after an apparent active shooter situation at the King Soopers on Table Mesa Drive in Boulder.

Our thoughts are with the store’s employees, shoppers, those that live in the area and anyone else who might have witnessed today’s events, as well as the brave first responders who are rushing into the area.

We are thankful that our schools are in Spring Break at this time, so there was limited activity at our buildings in the area. We know that at least two athletic teams were practicing at Fairview at the time that the incident started. Student athletes and coaches were ordered to go home, once school administrators learned of the incident and were able to confirm that the school was not being placed in a heightened state of security (Fairview was NOT placed in Secure or Lockdown, but evacuated quickly to send students to their homes and avoid congestion with first responders staging at FHS).

BVSD is working to support our partners who are responding to the situation. We are providing buses and allowing our facilities to be used, as needed. Currently, emergency helicopters are being landed at Fairview.

Again our thoughts are with all of those involved as we await more information.

In the meantime, let’s do everything we can to support our students. Here are some tips from the National Association of School Psychologists that may be helpful.

Seguimos unidos contra el racismo, la injusticia y la violencia

Estimadas familias y empleados del Valle de Boulder:

Estamos todos conteniendo nuestro aliento mientras observamos los eventos en curso, involucrando a un aparente tirador activo en el King Soopers de Table Mesa Drive en Boulder.

Tenemos en nuestros pensamientos a los empleados de la tienda, los clientes y todas las personas que viven en el área o que fueron testigos de lo sucedido, al igual que los servicios de primeros auxilios que están respondiendo a la situación.

Damos gracias que nuestras escuelas están en las vacaciones de primavera ahora, de manera que habían muy pocas actividades en nuestros edificios del área. Sabemos que por lo menos dos equipos deportivos estaban practicando en Fairview cuando el incidente comenzó. Los estudiantes deportistas y sus entrenadores fueron ordenados a regresar a casa cuando los administradores escolares se enteraron del incidente, y pudieron confirmar que la escuela no entró bajo una alerta de seguridad (Fairview NO entró en estado de “Protejan” o un cierre por emergencia pero fue evacuada rápidamente para mandar a los estudiantes a casa y despejar las calles en espera de los primeros auxilios.)

El BVSD está colaborando con nuestros compañeros que están respondiendo a la situación. Estamos proporcionando autobuses y acceso necesario a nuestras instalaciones. En este momento los helicópteros de emergencia están aterrizando en Fairview.

Nuevamente, tenemos en nuestros pensamientos a todas las personas involucradas mientras esperamos más información.
