Dear BVSD Families,

This evening, we provided the Board of Education with an update regarding COVID-19 and our reintroduction efforts. As promised, we have been monitoring the situation and we were pleased to share our plans for next steps a week earlier than anticipated.

As our partners in public health from Boulder and Broomfield counties shared tonight, the COVID-19 data continues to trend in a positive direction, with fewer cases in our community.

Additionally, we shared that the data shows our health precautions and the efforts we’ve taken to stay open are working. While we’ve had a number of quarantines, they have remained relatively small because of new guidelines that allow targeted contact tracing. Our new classroom and health monitors have helped to ensure that our schools stay open. Finally, since students returned to in-person learning on January 5, we’ve only had six cases of possible transmission in our schools. When you consider that we have 25,079 students and staff in-person and at times relatively high rates of transmission in our community – that is truly remarkable – and, again, a tribute to the preventative efforts in place at our buildings.

Simultaneously our efforts to vaccinate our teachers and staff are ahead of schedule. All of our employees have now been invited to receive their first shots – and we anticipate that most, especially our student-facing teachers and staff, will have the opportunity to be fully vaccinated before the end of March. With the situation continuing to improve, we and our partners in public health, believe that we are now able to ease some distancing restrictions in schools.

Unless there is a significant change in the situation, our secondary students will move to Phase 4 - In Person Learning four days per week on March 30, following Spring Break.

Monday Launch Days to continue through the end of the school year
We will continue to have Monday Launch Days at all levels through the end of this school year – in order to give our teachers planning time, which is especially needed for those that are teaching in the challenging Hyflex environments (with some students in-person and some learning remotely), which was needed to provide our families with the flexibility they desired.

We are now offering targeted academic and social-emotional supports for students on Mondays, including some in-person opportunities. We plan to continue to expand our Catch Up Plan efforts, to include more students who need and want the help.

BVSD plans to move to 5-day school schedule in August
We intend to return to a normal 5-day a week schedule next school year. By transitioning remote learning only students to Boulder Universal - LINK, our teachers will be able to return to a more normal schedule for the 2021-22 School Year.

It is important to note that we are not out of the woods. There is still community spread of the virus in our community, so everyone will be expected to continue the same health precautions that have proven to work in preventing the transmission of COVID-19 in our schools.

Please remember to stay home when you’re sick, wear face coverings, distance and wash your hands often – whenever you leave the house. Taking these simple actions will help to keep you safe and our schools open.

Additionally, with quarantines and outbreaks still possible, classes, schools and the district will be ready to move to remote learning, if necessary. We would encourage families to continue to have plans in place for when this occurs.

Esta tarde le comunicamos al Consejo de Educación noticias sobre COVID-19 y nuestros esfuerzos de reintegración. Tal como les prometimos, hemos estado vigilando la situación y nos complace compartirles nuestros próximos pasos antes de lo que habíamos anticipado.

El BVSD planea retomar un horario escolar de 5 días en agosto

Es importante tener en cuenta que aún no estamos fuera de peligro. El virus se sigue propagando dentro de nuestra comunidad, por lo cual todos deben continuar acatando las mismas precauciones de salud que han logrado prevenir la transmisión de COVID-19 en nuestras escuelas.

Les pedimos que por favor se queden en casa si están enfermos y usen sus cubiertas faciales, guarden distancia y lávense las manos con frecuencia siempre que salgan del hogar. Tomar estas acciones simples los mantendrá seguros y dejará que nuestras escuelas permanezcan abiertas.

Debido a que todavía existe la posibilidad de tener brotes o cuarentenas, las clases, escuela y el distrito también estarán listos para volver al aprendizaje remoto si fuera necesario. Animamos a las familias a tener un plan por si acaso esto fuera a suceder.
