Longtime local education advocate Virginia W. "Gingy" Patterson of Boulder died Saturday, October 20, 2018. During her long career supporting education in the Boulder community, Patterson served on the Boulder Valley Board of Education for 14 years and as President of the Board 1975-1981.

“I place great value on the importance of education in the life of every child and the significance to the community of the quality of that education.” Virginia Patterson (from an article in the Daily Camera published April 21, 1965, when Patterson was running for her second term as a member of the Boulder Valley Board of Education)

Patterson was first elected to the Board in 1961, the year that Boulder Valley School District was formed when people in 16 local school districts voted to join together into one school district. She also helped found Impact on Education in 1983.

Last August, she spoke at the 50th Anniversary Celebration at Boulder TEC, sharing memories about what career and technical education looked like when the center was first opened.

A service in celebration of Virginia Patterson’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 2, at St. Aidan's Episcopal Church, 2425 Colorado Ave., Boulder, CO 80302.

Editor’s Note: BVSD does not typically memorialize the death of BVSD students, employees or community members, but has chosen to remember Ms. Patterson due to her long and dedicated service to Boulder Valley students.
