Boulder Valley School District is extremely proud of the Class of 2018 and its many accomplishments. As students prepare for commencement in the next couple weeks, we are pleased to share the names of students who have been selected or are finalists for three top honors this graduation season.
Boettcher Scholarship
Established in 1952, the Boettcher Scholarship program annual awards 42 scholarships to graduating high school seniors in Colorado. The four-year scholarship includes virtually all expenses to attend the Colorado school of the recipient’s choice: full tuition, fees, a book allowance and an annual stipend for living expenses. The scholarship also includes lifelong programming and support to ensure that students reach their full potential as community leaders. Scholars are selected based on academics, service, leadership and character.
BVSD’s 2018 Boettcher Scholars are Gia Tran of Peak to Peak High School and Zoe Woods of Monarch High School. Trans plans to attend the University of Colorado and Woods will attend the University of Denver.

National Merit Scholarship
The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) – which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year – and by meeting published program entry and participation requirements. About one-third of those students (about 16,000) are selected as semi-finalists and 15,000 are named Finalists.
The following 40 BVSD students have been selected as National Merit Finalists.

U.S. Presidential Scholars Program
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President of the United States, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields. Each year, up to 161 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.
This year, Robin Peterson is one of 12 Colorado students selected as a U.S. Presidential Scholars semifinalist.
